It is not uncommon for groups using creative problem solving tools to get stuck. After an initial rush of ideas, it can be difficult to get beyond those ideas and generate more, or be radical in their thinking.
The random object exercise is one of several innovation tools that ‘unsticks’ the group. It only takes 1 or 2 people to start thinking in a different way and articulate what’s in their head for others to build on those ideas.
This story describes how an innovation tool – random object – was used to help group that had got ‘stuck’ generate more unusual ideas for a real-life challenge. The innovation tool we used helped the group find a very different perspective which released a stream of hjghly novel ideas. The client loved them!
